Time

The Wilson Family (2 adults-2 children and 1 small dog)

House (Systems)

(Midnight)

The whole family is sleeping

Global temperature decreases in all the rooms; it is maintained at 19oC in the bedrooms and bathrooms

1:00

Candy (the small dog) joins Julie (7 yrs old) in bed where she is sleeping peacefully

Automatic power cut-off of unused electrical appliances, thus preventing unnecessary phantom losses

Rain water recovery system is functioning

3:00

Julie goes to the bathroom

LED lights at floor level light up as she walks, guiding her path

4:00

The sun is just beginning to rise

Global temperature rises a few degrees - The shutters facing south open

6:00

The home control system plays their favorite music – Their bedroom curtains open

7:00

The whole family is now up

The battery unit provides additional energy for the first time today (cooking breakfast)

8:00

9:00

Peter (11yrs old) goes to play with his friend next door

Elevator goes down and in turn activates an energy generator that will provide some of its autonomy

10:00

Joanne prepares to do the laundry – Mark goes upstairs to train

The air conditioning and ventilation system adjusts to balance the coolness in the rooms being used

11:00

Julie forgets to turn off her audio-visual system – Mark takes a shower and makes sure he turns off the water while soaping up

Home control system reminds him that 325Wh could be saved – Water is pre-programmed to his favorite temperature

Filtered and treated waste water is quite sufficient for the task

17:00

The home control system does not recognize them as occupants and so asks them to identify themselves so they can have access to the elevator – The temperature adjusts itself at the arrival of additional people

18:00

The family and their guests sit down for dinner

As is usual during the evening meal, ambient music is heard the moment the dining room lights go down to enjoy a candlelit dinner.

The outdoor bio-ethanol fireplace gives off a particular ambiance as Mark explains that the home control system is programmed from the “Observation Desk”

20:00

The children and the dog are in the second level living room watching a movie on the home cinema’s giant screen

Lights fade; the curtains in that section close and the surround sound immerses them into their adventure film

21:00

Julie and Peter take turns going to the bathroom

As the door slides open, the LED lights turn on and the valve device is triggered by motion detection, which itself is recharged by a small turbine generates electricity

22:00

The children go to bed – the guests leave

Lighting guides the visitors to their electric car, that has been plugged in to the house’s power system since they arrived

23:00

After a short detour to their favorite place in the house, i.e. the solarium, and a swim in the Jacuzzi, the parents go to bed

All systems have performed impeccably. – Two of the four wind turbines generate power to the batteries, pushed by a wind coming from the north-west
